You can chose between catered and self-catered rooms, and with shared or ensuite bathrooms. Most contracts are 40 weeks long, but we also have some shorter and longer alternatives. We also offer flexible accommodation options for care leavers and estranged students, including year-round accommodation should you need it.

Moving into James College in my 1st year was a tremendous way of getting into student life. The Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs) were helpful and Freshers’ Week events really allowed me to settle in and make friends. Throughout the year, the college puts on activities, like college sport and Toastie Thursdays to encourage people to mingle!

What's a college?

Colleges are mini-communities within the University. When you enrol at York, you'll be assigned a college based on your accommodation. But colleges are so much more than just a room. Whether you're into sports, music, volunteering, or all of the above, your college will give you the chance to explore your passions whilst making friends. They're also a hub for student led events and activities, from live music and pub quizzes, to annual formal meals - the perfect chance to dress up.
