Student support over the Easter break

News

Posted on Sunday 22 March 2026

Whether you’re leaving York or sticking around, student support continues over the Easter vacation.

Emergency support on campus

Campus Safety is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - if it's urgent, call +44 (0)1904 32 3333 or download the SafeZone app for a quick response to any security or safety issue on campus.

Easter vacation and University closure

Vacation runs from Monday 30 March until Sunday 12 April 2026 (inclusive).

Staff and some services may have limited availability during University closure days over Easter bank holiday weekend (Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April 2026 inclusive). Semester restarts on Monday 13 April 2026.

If you're leaving York

Before you leave, don't forget to:

  1. Return your library books - they may still be recalled over the vacation
  2. Complete our switch-off checklist to help us meet our energy and cost-saving targets (you could win a prize for your college in the College Sustainability Challenge!)

Keeping connected

Stay connected with the Virtual Private Network (VPN) or the Virtual Desktop Service (VDS). Find out more about working off-campus.

IT Support is open as normal over the Easter vacation but will close for the bank holiday weekend.

If you're staying in York

If you’re staying in campus accommodation over the vacation, cleaning, maintenance and reception services mostly remain the same; however there is no cleaning service or Facilities Helpdesk over the bank holiday weekend. You can contact Campus Safety for non-emergencies. Dial +44 (0)1904 32 4444 (or 4444 from any internal telephone) or use the SafeZone app.

MyUoY: The official University of York student app

Retail and catering outlet opening times change during the vacation - visit Eat, drink and shop at York opening times or the MyUoY app to see what is open and when.

See the MyUoY app or student events for events and activities taking place over the vacation - college events are open to all students during the vacation, regardless of which college you belong to.

Bus services

From Sunday 29 March to Saturday 11 April, University bus services (U1, U2, U3, U4 and UN1) will run on a reduced non term bus timetable

  • U1 and U2: Reduced frequency to every 40 minutes.
  • U3 & U4: Will not operate during the Easter holiday period.
  • UN1: Operating Friday and Saturday nights only

Easter break social hubs are open

All college common rooms are open everyday from 9am to 5pm for you to meet other people staying on campus and relax.

Careers and Placements

Careers and Placements are open over the vacation Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm (not Fridays). They are closed for the bank holiday on Monday 6 April 2026.

Academic support wherever you are

The Library is open, as usual, between 8am and midnight throughout the vacation (including over the bank holiday weekend). The Library Helpdesk is open Monday-Friday 10am - 4pm for queries in person, on the phone or via chat; weekends are self-service only.

One-to-one academic writing, maths and study coaching appointments continue over the break.

Keep up with your reading list via the Library’s e-resources and check out our online skills guides.

Wellbeing support wherever you are

The Student Hub is open as normal over the break, though it will be closed for the bank holiday weekend.

Our usual sources of wellbeing help and support are still available over the break, including Campus Safety. Your wellbeing officers are still available for both in-person and online appointments to chat through any issues you might be experiencing, apart from over the bank holiday weekend. The Open Door team operates 9am-5pm vacation opening hours.
