All researchers have a responsibility to properly manage the research data they use or create during the course of their research. The management of research data is sufficiently important that many research funders, and the University, have requirements for how it is managed.
This introductory session is for anyone who needs to know the basics of research data management (RDM) and some of the actions that should be considered when it comes to managing research data well.
Learning objectives
- Understand the basic principles of RDM and the key role that data management plays in responsible research.
- Appreciate the requirements that exist and why planning ahead is important.
- Start to consider the actions you need to take, or to find out about, to manage your research data well.
- Know where to find support and guidance.
This session is not going to cover research data archiving, which is encouraged and often required (e.g. by funders). Please see the Archiving your Research Data session.
