Research Spotlight

Shining a light on the people who make research happen.

Research Spotlight is an annual University-wide conference (previously known as Celebrating Spaces: Connecting Researchers) which brings together the research community at York and celebrates the people behind the scenes who make it happen.

The Research Spotlight conference 2026 will be held on 25 June. It is open to all university staff members and is free to attend.

What to expect?

The 2026 conference will feature lightning talks from York's research community members, a stallholder exhibition, and a networking session.

The conference runs from 9am - 3pm at the School of Arts and Creative Technologies on Thursday, 25 June. The talks will take place from 9.30am - 12pm, and the exhibition will be open from 12-3pm.  Lunch will be provided at 12pm.

This year, the lightning talks will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with Professor Kate Pickett OBE, Professor of Epidemiology at the University of York. Professor Pickett leads the Public Health and Society Research Group and is Director of the Born in Bradford Centre for Social Change. She has also authored several books - her latest, The Good Society: And How We Make it, was published earlier this year.
