Event details

The modern world can be a stressful place in which to live. Research as a career is precarious in the early stages and a PhD is almost designed to be a test of character as well as intelligence. Perhaps we need some tools to help manage stress and get some new ideas to help us to build professional resilience and rise to the challenge.

Moreover, people want to lead a rounded life, but simultaneously may feel that to be successful they need to be constantly working. It is true that many researchers are vocationally devoted to their fields of study, but in this session we’ll examine we’ll examine how we might achieve a healthy balance.

The aim of this workshop is to help you to consider the elements in your life that cause you worry or stress and then to:

  • Recognise and pre-emptively manage, or even prevent, the things that stress us
  • Share strategies for coping with professional and social stressors and discuss practical ways to
    maintain wellbeing and build resilience.
  • Build a toolkit to help achieve professional balance
