Event details

From public engagement events to workplace presentations, public speaking is a key skill for working in research environments and beyond.

In this session, we'll run through practical techniques and exercises to enhance your physical delivery of public talks, including:

  • Posture, projection, and enunciation exercises
  • How to appear confident when you're not
  • The best approaches to using a microphone
  • And what on earth should you do with your hands?

The first part of the session will be in a seminar room, and we'll move to a lecture theatre for the second part.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand how and when the skill of public speaking is useful in the workplace
  • Manage your physical presence on stage, particularly posture and enunciation
  • Identify small, low-stakes settings where you can comfortably practice and refine your public speaking skill
