Getting Started with Public Engagement

Knowing how to share your research with the public is a crucial part of the work that researchers do. There are many barriers between the Research sector and general public, and we can all play our part in being accountable, socially responsible, trustworthy, and keeping our work relevant to the general public.

This workshop will explore: what public engagement is; the foundations of how to engage with the public; and opportunities/further resources to help you get started with public engagement . We will also be joined by the Involvement@York Team, who champion and support public involvement and participatory approaches in research across the University of York.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the differences/similarities between Public Engagement & Public Involvement
• Learn how to connect with your audience and clearly explain your work to them
• Consider next steps in Public Engagement, from further workshops to PE opportunities
