Developing an Elevator Pitch for your Research

Whether you're at a conference, a public engagement event, working with policy makers or applying for funding, the ability to talk about your research to a variety of people is a crucial skill for all researchers (and research-enabling staff).
In this interactive workshop, you will be supported to develop your own elevator pitch - a 30-60 second summary of your research, why it matters, and why you are passionate about your work.
You'll learn the components of a good pitch, how to connect with your audience, and how to tell the story of you and your research. You'll then have an opportunity to present your pitch and receive feedback, before considering how you can tailor your pitch to different audiences.
This session is suitable for anyone who is nervous about networking and public speaking - we offer a fun, relaxed and encouraging environment to practice speaking one-to-one and to a small group.
This session is also suitable for research-enabling staff, for example if you regularly have to discuss projects/the work of researchers in your department.
