This introductory session looks at why LinkedIn is such an important tool and platform for Researchers. You’ll learn how LinkedIn can help you to develop and promote your personal brand - important for networking, collaboration, career research, and job applications.
Facilitated by staff from the Research Culture & Researcher Development, and Careers and Placements teams, there are 3 key aims of the session: how to make best use of the different LinkedIn profile sections; How to manage the overall impression that your Linkedin profile gives (your personal brand); and how to use LinkedIn to build your profile in a way that will support your career management.
Before you attend this session, we recommend that you set up a basic LinkedIn profile. Please bring a phone/laptop with you which you can use to search LinkedIn.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand how to set up an account on LinkedIn, what details to include, and how to write posts/create content and interact with other people on the platform
- Appreciate the pros and cons of using LinkedIn, and how it can benefit your career and professional development now and in the future.
- Understand how to develop your profile in a way that promotes your personal brand
- Know how to use LinkedIn as a research tool to explore career options and pathways, and how it can be used to find and apply for job opportunities.
