Event details
This short online session is suitable for postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers who are planning to apply for jobs outside academia and want to understand how their PhD skills and experiences can be effectively communicated to employers across different sectors. We’ll be focusing on key points rather than an in-depth exploration of the topic. There’ll be opportunities to ask questions and contribute, but no breakout rooms.
Learning objectives
- Understand the core skills developed during your PhD and related activities and why non-academic employers value them
- Know how to interpret job descriptions and person specifications and translate your academic skills and experience into language that resonates with employers
- Be able to develop a positive career narrative for use in applications, interviews and networking
