Event details

Whether you’re preparing for your first professional career step, or considering a change of direction, finding a career that aligns with your strengths, motivations and values is important. Beyond academia it isn't always clear what your career options are, so this short introductory session will focus on a range of strategies to help you identify potential career paths. Career planning takes time and you won’t go away with all the answers today, but hopefully with some practical actions to undertake that will help you work out your next steps.

There’ll be opportunities to ask questions and contribute, but no breakout rooms.

Learning objectives:

  • Know how to reflect on your personal values, strengths, motivators and interests and understand how this can inform career choice
  • Gain an insight into career pathways for PhD graduates and know how to research those that interest you
  • Know how to generate career ideas for yourself if you are finding it difficult to identify careers that would suit you
  • Understand the importance of developing a flexible career mindset, recognising that career paths evolve and change over time
  • Be able to develop an action plan for ongoing career exploration
