In it's first year at York, the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) competition was run as "Relaying your Research", in collaboration with York Enterprise 2012: Ready, Steady, GROW.

On June 19 2012 the Olympic torch relay passed through York. To mark this historic occasion the Researcher Development Team provided researchers with an opportunity to present their research to a lay audience and ‘pass on the baton’ of research to the next generation.

Ten research students were selected to take part at the event, held at the York Racecourse. They offered their pitches to a panel of judges made up of sixth form pupils, business development managers, entrepreneurs and media representatives.

This has been a terrific confidence boost at a time when my faith in my research was running low, and has really motivated me to finish writing so I can get my research out into the public sphere.
