About the collection

The collector

Peter Gibson was the first Superintendent of the newly-established York Glaziers' Trust from 1967. He held this position until retirement in 2003. The York Glaziers' Trust is dedicated to the care of the Minster's windows and the preservation of historic stained glass nationwide.

He supervised the preservation work on the Rose Window after the 1984 fire in the Minster's south transept caused terrible damage to the famous window.

Acquisition

The collection was donated to the Library by Peter Gibson in 2015.
