Latest Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation report features recommendations from AAIP’s Director
The Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) published “Responsible Innovation in Self-Driving Vehicles” this month, featuring recommendations shaped by the AAIP’s Director, Professor John McDermid, and Professor Jack Stilgoe of UCL
The report, which makes recommendations for an approach to addressing the ethical aspects of the regulation and governance of self-driving vehicles, was commissioned by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.
“This report and its recommendations are crucial to the safe and ethical introduction and adoption of autonomous vehicles,” said Professor McDermid. “It is important to consider safety and ethics in an integrated way, not as disparate or competing attributes of autonomous vehicles. By working with Jack Stilgoe of UCL and colleagues at CDEI we have produced a report that seeks to incorporate safety and ethics in a coherent framework.
“The report is an important element of ensuring that the regulation of self-driving cars is fair, trustworthy and pro-innovation. This will help us to build public trust and confidence in the technology.”
