Closing the national skills gap

The UK has a massive opportunity to lead the global economy over the next decade, but one major hurdle stands in the way: a growing skills gap.

A new national compact could see partnerships between Government, employers and the higher education sector paving the way forward.

The report, from the University of York, QS and Public First, shows that by adopting a ‘skills-first’ approach and building an AI-ready workforce, the UK could add £490 billion to its economy by 2030. That effectively triples annual GDP growth for the rest of the decade.
