Could you help a new student settle in? Apply to be a STYC or STYM

Posted on 12 March 2023

Applications to join the 2023/24 College STYC and STYM teams are now open to current undergraduates who will be moving into their second, third or fourth year of studies in September.

What are STYCs and STYMs?

Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs) volunteer as part of each college’s welcome team in Freshers week. They attend events and activities to support new students with moving in, finding their way around and feeling settled in their first week at University.

Head STYCs help their college teams by coordinating and supporting the running of College events and activities, and acting as a next point of call for STYCs who have questions or concerns.

Second and Third Year Mentors (STYMs) are the next layer of support from STYCs, and stay in contact with their students beyond Freshers week. They meet with their students across the year to offer peer support, signpost to further information and help students transition into University life.
