Student managed investment funds (SMIFs) are big business in the US, often with many millions of dollars of funds under management. SMIFs are an increasingly popular feature of UK universities but until now the only conferences have been in the US. The University of York and the Griff Investment Fund are pleased to announce the UK's first SMIF conference.

We want to examine a wide range of topics relevant to SMIFs as small institutional investors, ranging from how to select new student analysts, strategies to enhance diversity and inclusion in the analyst body, financial decision making and biases, asset pricing, financial forecasting, volatility and co-movement of assets, and market sentiment. We aim to include topics presented by SMIF committee members, staff supervising them, investment academics, industry professionals (especially SMIF alumni) and investment authors and journalists. Proposals for talks on all these topics are welcome.

We are keeping the ticket price low to encourage attendance by student analysts from SMIFs around the UK. We can also cover 80% of student travel costs where the student cannot claim it back from their home university (cheapest standard class rail ticket or equivalent). Speakers will be invited to a quality restaurant in the evening and can claim hotel and travel costs. The ticket price includes a buffet lunch and refreshments.
