Your free time

As a short courses student, you’re a member of Derwent College.

This means you have access to the Junior Common Room as a place to relax. At D Bar there is a mixture of events like open mic nights and band nights - see Derwent social events. Derwent is also home to the Norman Rea Gallery, run entirely by students.

Campus events

We want you to make the most of your time here in York. A Global Opportunities intern will visit at least once a week at lunchtime and breaks to tell you about all the main events happening in the next week.

Student life in York

York city guide

Lively, full of culture and beautiful, York is regularly voted one of the best places to live and visit in the UK. See our York city guide, with hot spots and hidden gems suggested by students and staff, including eight reasons why there's nowhere else quite like it!

Places to visit in the UK

York is a great base to explore the UK due to its central location and good transport links. Must-see places to visit in the UK could include London, Edinburgh or the Lake District. Closer to York, there is Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool or Scarborough and Whitby on the Yorkshire Coast.

See VisitBritain.com for more ideas.

Staying away form

If you’re staying away overnight then you must complete the staying away form.

Fill in one form for every group of students who are travelling together - so if five students are travelling together, only one student needs to fill in the form.
