This session is designed to help you navigate the viva process with confidence. We will cover the pre-viva period, detailing the requirements for both you and the University, and provide guidance on how to effectively prepare. You will learn about the progression of your viva, including strategies for answering questions effectively and handling challenging queries. The session will culminate in a mini mock viva, offering you a valuable opportunity to practise and refine your skills.

By the end of these sessions, participants will be able to:

  • know the processes and procedures for the viva examination at the University of York 
  • consider how to prepare in the lead up to the viva
  • anticipate the issues and questions likely to be raised by the viva
  • understand how to be effective in answering viva questions
  • have participated in mock vivas in the roles of both candidate and examiner

Prerequisites

Students must have successfully got through their first progression point to be eligible for this course.
