This short online session, delivered by the Open Research team, will be of interest to postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and all staff involved in research.
Copyright legislation and licensing frameworks can be complex, but are essential when it comes to protecting rightsholders/creators and enabling others to reuse material fairly under certain circumstances. It is important for researchers to consider copyright issues throughout the research cycle, whether you are incorporating someone else's work or preparing to make your own material publicly available.
This introductory session covers the fundamentals of copyright and licensing for research, exploring the legal terms, exceptions and licences such as Creative Commons which are most relevant to staff and students preparing material for a thesis or publication. Case studies from York researchers will be shared and we will signpost where further support and guidance can be found.
Towards the end of the session time will be given over to questions and answers.
