Informal approach: Collecting evidence

Be as specific as possible with the individual about the problem to help achieve a quick and effective resolution. 

For academic staff, evidencing underperformance may include consideration of the following:

  • Teaching:
    • Student questionnaires/feedback
    • Peer and independent assessment
  • Research:
    • REF/HEFCE standards
    • Specification of particular publications/output/grant applications
    • Submission v publication rates (input v output) - is this within the individual's control?
    • Checking progress periodically (not waiting for an end result in 12 months or more)
  • Administration, leadership and management:
    • Roles held (departmental or university)
    • Time spent/outputs
