Seminar

Date:  21-22 March 2017

Venue: Seagate (Teparuk, Thailand)

Objectives:

With the aim of expanding the knowledge and cohesion of the magnetics community in Thailand, the workshop is an activity undertaken under the collaborative research between Mahasarakham University (MSU, Thailand) , the University of York (UoY, UK) and Seagate technology (Thailand, UK) supported by RAEng (Royal Academy of Engineering, UK) and TRF (Thailand Research Funding). The main objectives of this workshop are as follows.

1. Develop the links between university and industry in Thailand

2. Transfer the knowledge and research methodology to solve the problems of industry

3. As a sustainable development, broaden the knowledge of magnetism and its applications to Thai academics  , encourage and enable links with industry and to establish the magnetism community in Thailand at the international level

Motivation:

The contribution of the magnetic recording industry to the Thai economy is of central importance. In order to maintain the industry it is important to provide a flow of trained students at PhD level into engineering careers. At the same time it is necessary to expand the academic research in magnetism in Thailand both in order to train the students and to support the industry in expanding its R&D efforts within Thailand; an important development if Thai industry is to fulfill its potential for contribution to product development and design. We have a strong ambition to strengthen the magnetism community in Thailand and to bring it to its best possible level internationally. We will achieve this aim through a series of topical meetings, culminating in a School/Workshop to which leading experts will be invited

Keynote Lecturer(s): IEEE distinguished lecturers, Prof. Roy Chantrell

Key benefits:

The workshop will strengthen the link between industry and Thai academics which subsequently leads to the possibility to establish the R&D based in Thailand.  This will also give the opportunity to Thai academics to gain and share knowledge from the world leading scientists. It will give rise to a stronger and more expert research community in magnetism in Thailand.

Attendees: Academia/industry working in magnetism and its application

Registration: No Fee

Banquet: Banquet will be held on the evening of 21 March 2017.
