About R and RStudio

About the software

R is a programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics.

RStudio is an integrated development environment (IDE) for R.

Version

R 3.5.1 and RStudio 1.1.453 are installed on all IT Services managed PCs and the latest versions are available as free downloads for unmanaged and personal machines; see Obtaining the software tab.

Classrooms

R and R Studio are installed on all IT Services classroom PCs. They appear under Start | All Programs.

Home use

Both R and RStudio are open source and can be downloaded for free:

Versions of R and RStudio for Windows, Mac and Linux are available.

Using different versions of R with RStudio

Staff

Managed PCs

To install R and R Studio on office PCs managed by IT Services, follow these steps:

  1. From the Start Menu search for and open Software Center
  2. Locate the software under the Available Software tab
  3. Click on the Install button in the lower right

Once installed they will appear under Start | All Programs.

Unmanaged machines and home use

Both R and RStudio are open source and can be downloaded for free:

If you require additional packages for version R 2.15.2 and above, please submit a request to the IT Support including the required package details.
