At York, researchers collaborate across the University's seven interdisciplinary research themes to address the great scientific, social and environmental challenges of our times.
Our department has particularly strong partnerships within three themes: Health and Wellbeing, Technologies for the Future, and Creativity.
Health and Wellbeing
As we all live longer, there is increasing demand for access to our medical services. Technology is the answer to providing sustainable, personalised healthcare. At York we are applying research across the Electronic Engineering discipline to improve patients' care and quality of life, while reducing costs. We are at the forefront of pioneering new technologies for patient benefit.
Technologies for the Future
It's hard to conceive of an area of Electronic Engineering that will not have an impact on future technologies. At York our research ranges from the latest large scale communications systems through to micro and nanoscale investigations, making use of the latest theory and practice in robotics, spintronics, hardware devices and machine learning.
Creativity is a vital component of engineering and applying our engineering research to creative applications is a long-standing strength of our department. We apply our creativity to areas such as sound, music, audio processing and modelling. Our interdisciplinary approach brings together arts and humanities with engineering to create greater societal impact.
