The Department of Electronics at York is able to offer state-of-the-art expertise and facilities to help external organisations with many electronics-related problems, and collaborate on joint research projects.

In conjuction with York EMC Services, the department runs a regular programme of technical training courses on a range of subjects from Radio Propagation to Nanotechnology. We can also offer bespoke courses tailored to the requirements of individual clients.

The Department of Electronics trains some of the brightest electronics graduates in the country, and can help publicise vacancies for graduate and post graduate engineers. Opportunities also exist for sponsoring students, student projects, and sandwich year placements.

Examples of Recent Collaborations

  • Working with the European Space Agency to develop coding techniques for deep space communication
  • Working with a consortium of Universities and Semiconductor companies on new computing architectures tolerant of the variability in performance of nano-scale devices
  • Developing equipment for the automatic detection and identification of insects for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
  • Researching new strategies for automatic cancer cell identification with the National Health Service.
  • Developing technology to produce virtual 3-dimensional sound using only headphones with France Telecom.

Student Industrial Schemes:

We are looking for partners to host undergraduate and masters students for placements and have a range of different options available at different times of the year (from 3 month internships to year long placements). These placements provide an excellent opportunity for your company to work on a specific research and development problem or an issue you need to understand, recruit outstanding employees and support students to obtain valuable industrial experience.
