Facilities at Vanbrugh

Information on useful facilities and services: Laundry, post, communal areas, food, receptions, travel and accommodation.

Where to go for

Le Page laundry is in C Block. Donald Barron / Barbara Scott have a launderette. Eric Milner use the James College laundry opposite. Fairfax House has a laundry room. All require keycard access.
If there’s a problem with your room, or other accommodation/communal area that requires cleaning, fixing or maintenance, please let us know at your earliest convenience, so that we can put it right as swiftly as possible. Here's how to.
Vanbrugh Reception is in the Information Centre at the top of Vanbrugh Way by Market Square. Go through the main doors and to the left. Find opening times on the reception services page.

Mail

Small post for Donald Barron and Barbara Scott Court have mailboxes for small post, just inside the front doors. The key is in your kitchen - look after it, a replacement costs £10. 

Large mail and all other small post is sent to Vanbrugh Reception. Your mail should be addressed to the college mailing address with your name and room code clearly labelled. You’ll need your student ID to collect it.

Important information for Fairfax House to note is that all royal mail deliveries to Fairfax will be automatically diverted to the Vanbrugh Reception on campus.  Any courier deliveries are at your own risk and we recommend that you use the Vanbrugh Reception address instead.

Couriers may deliver directly to your block but this is done so at your own risk.

Communal areas

Vanbrugh’s Junior Common Room, Graduate/Senior Common Room and our home at The Warren are available for college members to use to meet up in, relax and enjoy with their mix of comfy seating and other amenities.

Getting around

There are bus stops at Market Square, outside the Library, by Donald Barron/Barbara Scott Court and at Fairfax House. A free shuttle runs across campus, while a paid service continues into the city.
Cycle parking is available across Vanbrugh, including secure stores that require keycard access, uncovered hoops for communal use and a wrack at Market Square.

What's near?

  • Food and drink: Your nearest places for a bite to eat are Vanbrugh Dining Room / Vanbrugh Arms or further afield, the Library and The Courtyard, both within a five minute walk.
  • The York Sport Centre is just a ten minute walk away and has gym facilities and courts for racquet sports.
  • Market Square is a two minute walk away and contains a Market Square grocery store and cash point.
  • The Library and Spring Lane Building are three minutes walk away and are home to a variety of study spaces.

For Fairfax House, add approximately 8 minutes to your walking time.
