Where to go for

Laundry
James College launderette can be found near block A. You’ll need your key card to access the room.
Maintenance
If there’s a problem with your room that requires cleaning or maintenance, here’s how to report it, so that it can be fixed soon.
Reception
Campus West Reception (Information Centre) is located in Market Square. Find opening times and contact details on the reception services page.

Mail

Small letters are delivered to the mailbox outside your block, accessible via the key in your kitchen. 

Larger post and parcels are delivered to your nearest reception. You’ll receive an email telling you when to collect it - remember your student ID when you do.

Communal areas

James has two common rooms for students to hang out, meet up and socialise with other college members. There’s the Lakeside, which is located in ABC Quad and James Lodge, located up the long driveway opposite the Roger Kirk Centre.

Getting around

Buses
The closest bus stop is just outside the Library. A free shuttle bus runs between Campus East and West while a paid service goes into the city centre,
Cycle parking
Cycle parking is available throughout the college grounds from secure stores (which you’ll need your keycard to access) and uncovered hoops for communal use.

What's near?

  • Food and drink: Your nearest places for a drink or bite to eat are D Bar and The Roger Kirk Centre, approximately a 12 minute walk away.
  • The York Sport Centre is just a 10 minute walk away and is home to a gym and courts for racquet sports.
  • Market square and the Library are a 14 minutes walk away and are home to a Market Square grocery store and study resources.
  • A cashpoint can be found outside the Roger Kirk Centre.
