Facilities at Halifax

Information on useful facilities and services: Laundry, post, communal areas, food, receptions, travel and accommodation.

Where to go for

Halifax launderette is located near our accommodation blocks at St Lawrence Court. You’ll need your keycard for access.
If you have a problem with your room that requires cleaning or fixing, let us know as soon as possible, so that we can fix it for you.
Campus West Reception is located in Market Square. Find opening times and contact details on the reception services page.

Mail

Small post is delivered to the mailbox at your house/block. 

Large parcels are delivered to Campus West Reception (Information Centre) and you'll get an email when they're ready to collect. Remember to bring your student ID.

Communal areas

Halifax has two common rooms -  St Lawrence and JJ’s - that college members can use to hang out in, socialise and relax. There’s also an IT suite and College Classroom for study in the Halifax College Reception Building.

Getting around

A free bus service runs from the Halifax College Reception Building to the Roger Kirk Centre. Outside the Library, a free shuttle runs across campus, while a paid service continues into the city centre.
Cycle parking is available throughout Halifax, including secure stores that require keycard access and uncovered hoops for communal use.

What's near?

  • Food and drink: Your nearest places for a drink or bite to eat are D Bar and the Roger Kirk Centre, approximately a 12 minute walk away.
  • The York Sport Centre is just a 10 minute walk away and is home to a gym and courts for racquet sports.
  • Market square and the Library are a 14 minutes walk away and are home to a Market Square grocery store and study resources.
  • A cashpoint can be found outside the Halifax Reception Building

Accommodation

Nearly 1,000 resident students live on campus at Halifax in our variety of ensuite and shared bathroom accommodation. We also have some family housing for students with children. For accommodation enquiries, please contact the Accommodation Team at accommodation@york.ac.uk.
