Laundry

Launderettes are at K block ground floor, under B block walkway, between blocks E and H and behind Eden's Court houses A and B. You'll need a keycard from reception.

If there’s a problem with your room or another accommodation/communal area that requires cleaning, fixing or maintenance, here's how to let the correct team know, so that they fix it for you as soon as possible.

Reception

Your reception is at the main Derwent entrance (N Block). Out of hours, visit the Information Centre. Find opening times and contact details on the reception services page.

Mail

Mail is delivered to Derwent Reception.

Letters are stored in the mail room next to the reception which you can access with your keycard, or be let in by reception staff upon showing your Student ID. Letters are sorted alphabetically by surname, while unnamed post is put on the table.

Parcels are kept at Derwent Reception. You’ll get an email when it’s ready for collection -  don’t forget to bring your student ID.

Mailroom Services

Any letters, parcels or takeaways should be sent to the following address. If you include Derwent College or Derwent Reception in the delivery address then it can be collected from the car park in front of the reception entrance.

Communal areas

Aside from some of our other study and social spaces, Derwent has a General Common Room, Junior Common Room and Senior Common Room available for college members to use, meet up in and enjoy.

Getting around

Buses

The closest bus stops to Derwent are outside the Library and Heslington Hall. A free shuttle runs across campus, while a paid service continues into the city centre.

Cycle parking is available throughout the college grounds; from secure, covered stores requiring keycard access, to uncovered hoops for communal use.

What's near?

  • Food and drink: Your nearest places for a drink or bite to eat are D Bar and The Courtyard, both are within the college grounds.
  • The York Sport Sports Centre is just a 10 minute walk away and is home to a gym and courts for racquet sports.
  • Market square is just a five minutes walk away and is home to a NISA grocery store.
  • The Library is a short 6 minutes walk away.
