Formal recognition

Formal recognition schemes may involve public recognition and/or a financial reward.

It’s important to share informal praise, recognition and positive feedback as it arises throughout the year. This may be via verbal acknowledgement at a 1-1 meeting, project catch-up or team meeting. It could simply be forwarding on a message of praise or taking the time to share some positive feedback via a departmental newsletter or slack channel.

On some occasions, where an individual has gone above and beyond in their contribution, you may decide to follow up with more formal recognition.

  • Making the Difference bonus scheme
MTD schemes are managed at a departmental level. The scheme rewards individuals or teams for an outstanding one-off or short-term contribution with a lump sum payment.
  • Rewarding Excellence
A annual scheme that recognises individuals for sustained outstanding contribution. Nominees who are successful are rewarded with an additional salary increment. Individuals can be nominated by their HoD, line manager or via self-nomination.
  • Temporary responsibility allowance
Paid for carrying out some or all of the duties of a higher-graded post on a temporary basis.
  • Inclusive Impact Awards
Annual awards that celebrate transformation in action. Giving recognition and visibility to those who champion diversity, inclusion and the values of the community without limits framework. Nominations are called for annually.

Please note that role reviews should not be used as a mechanism for recognising good performance. A role review should be used where there is a business need for a higher graded role.
