Event details

How do policymakers decide where to allocate limited resources when facing complex, overlapping socio-environmental challenges? TerraRisk is an interactive, data-driven "serious game" designed to bridge the gap between ecological science and Evidence-Based Policy Making (EBPM), by promoting an integrative assessment of different socio-climatic risks. Originally developed for an immersive workshop with decision-makers from the São Paulo State Secretariat of Environment in Brazil, the platform simulates the high-stakes environment of climate adaptation planning.

In this session, Dr. Adrian González-Chaves (of the University of São Paulo) will present how TerraRisk transforms abstract spatial data into a tangible strategic challenge. We will explore the platform's gamified mechanics—where participants use a limited budget to "purchase" spatial indicators, rank municipal vulnerabilities, and select actionable climate interventions—and discuss the broader potential of gamified learning environments in shaping effective environmental governance.
