Event details

Where: We'll meet near Tree 1, which is between English and Derwent and (I believe) about here, or https://what3words.com/metals.reform.loft .

Join us for our next campus trees gathering as we begin to collect personal stories connected to the trees and nature around the University.

We invite you to share a story (or several!) about any of the trees or natural spaces on campus — these could be personal memories, tales passed on by friends or family, or even snippets of local legend. Perhaps there’s a tree you always stop to check on, a favourite lunch spot, a place where you’ve watched butterflies, or a branch that once got in your way. Every story adds a new layer to our shared connection with the landscape.

In our previous meeting, we imagined what the campus trees might have witnessed over the years — from changing seasons to generations of students passing by. While we can’t uncover their full history, we can start a new one together by gathering stories from staff, students, and alumni. What might the willows have seen during countless graduations? How many family photos have been taken beneath their branches?

During this session, we’ll walk part of the Native Tree Trail and share the stories we’ve gathered so far. You’re welcome to bring your story along on the day or send it in advance via our Campus Tree Story form.

If you’d prefer a future meeting that’s less outdoors and more seminar-style, and would like to share your research related to trees, nature, or campus ecology, please get in touch — we’d love to include you in our November session.
