Our department is one of the leading centres for archaeological teaching in the UK. The department has a strong international outlook, researching archaeology around the globe, and all teaching is research-led. The city of York boasts historic buildings and significant remains from the Roman, Viking and Medieval periods.
The department is based in King’s Manor, a beautiful medieval building in the centre of York. We also have world-leading facilities on the main University campus including advanced Bioarchaeology facilities; our PalaeoHub with cutting edge labs; and our outdoor Experimental Archaeology centre
