Module summary

Through lecture sessions, masterclasses and workshops with working professionals and sector experts students will gain an advanced understanding of the business of film and television.and is production and post production wokflows They will develop theirt own business skills and insights through researching case studies in production and / or post production stategies.

Related modules

It is expected that students opting for this module will have some experience of film or TV production at UG level, or that they will have determined that production or production management are likely career parths.

Module aims

To provide students with a realistic and up-to-date picture of the film and television industry including the development, financing and distribution of projects.

To provide students with an understanding of the business aspects of production and postproduction, and their relationship to the film and television industry.

To develop a range of personal skills to enhance students' ability to market themselves and gain employment in a competitive marketplace.

To enhance and develop public speaking skills including pitching and client relations.

To develop and refine planning and research skills whereby students can devise stratgeies and workflows for managing succesful production or post production projects

Module learning outcomes

Upon completion of this module students are expected to be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the business and processes of film and television production and post production
Demonstrate an understanding of the postproduction industry including the nature of day-to-day operations, business environment, client procurement and retention, staffing and legal issues.
Demonstrate personal communication and marketing skills including pitching, client relationship techniques and proposal and business plan writing

Demostrate a capacity to reseatch, plan and articulate progduction and / or post production workflows based on real world costings, schedules and facilities.
