Production Project - TFT00061M
Module summary
This short, intensive module (6hours per week of contact time, with dedicated, timetabled blocks of rehearsals) brings your cohort together to develop, over four weeks, a practical production project which puts the learning of the previous terms into action. You will work towards a 20-30 minute performance in one of the department’s theatres (performed in Week 10). Each year, a brief will be set within which you will work. Examples of possible projects might be a project based on the work of a particular director/theorist, a documentary or verbatim play, or a piece from a specific moment in theatre history. You might work from, or adapt, a script, or start with and respond to found material/a news story. The final production will be semi-staged, with a simple set and lighting plan. The group may draw on the expertise of undergraduate students to help stage-manage the production.

Module aims
The aims of the module are:
- to provide you with the opportunity to research, rehearse and stage a play in response to a brief set by the module tutor
- to apply the skills you have developed on the preceding three modules to this particular performance project
- to use the storytelling features of theatre to demonstrate the research that you have done (for e.g. into a particular form of theatre, a political story or found material)
- to allow you to work collaboratively as actors, directors and dramaturges to successfully stage the play in front of an audience
- to provide you with the opportunity to critically reflect on the process and to contextualise your work within scholarship into contemporary theatre making
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the module you will be expected to:
- effectively stage a production project which puts the learning of the previous terms into action
- work effectively as a group to communicate your ideas with clarity and focus, which will involve project team work, compromise, patience and a shared sense of endeavour
- conduct research into the given area and to translate this research into practice
- effectively analyse your practice in a critical reflection

Assessment comprises a practical and written component:
- 50% practical project (Week 10 Spring Term). You will receive a group grade for the production
- 50% reflective essay (Week 1 Summer Term)

Module feedback
Students will receive written feedback on their summative work within the 20-working day University feedback policy, and will receive written feedback on their formative work within 20 working days or sooner, with an option of an individual follow-up meeting if any aspect of the feedback is unclear to the student or if more guidance on interpreting the feedback is requested.
On this module, formative feedback will be given in teaching sessions for practical work towards the assessment.
As the brief for the reflective essay will be similar to that of the preceding module, there is no formative assessment.
