Module summary

In this module you will prepare to develop your own professional career in music-related fields and beyond. You will explore your own decision-making processes around the idea of ‘career’, relate these to your areas of individual practice in music, and investigate how you can communicate your transferable skills to employers.

Module aims

This module aims to enable you to explore your current skills and gain experience developing qualities that support professional development. The module aims to equip you with the ability to communicate your skills (both musical and transferable) to prospective employers.

Module learning outcomes

On completion of this module, you will:

  • be able to reflect on your ideas about career
  • have developed a curriculum vitae and mock job application and received feedback on these
  • be in a position to identify, discuss and illustrate the importance of transferable skills
  • understand more about yourself and the work environments you might enter

Additional assessment information

Students must identify a real graduate-level job opportunity, for which they will construct a mock application. The assessment consists of two parts, both of which students must complete in order to pass.
