Module aims
The aim of the module is to enhance your ability to critically evaluate material production and consumption issues in a wider economic, social and political context. The fieldtrip involves you visiting the Skoda car plant, a crystal manufacturing factory and a Distillery/Brewery, where you will engage actively with the external world through empirical learning beyond the formal classroom. The experiences gathered during the fieldtrip will provide you with an opportunity to develop strong ‘geographical imaginations’ to understand the geographies of production and consumption and its complexities in a holistic way. You will be able to apply conceptual and methodological skills learned elsewhere in the curriculum to more complex field environments.

- Critically evaluate material production and consumption issues in their wider economic, social and political context.
- Apply core production and consumption geography knowledge in the analysis of specific scenarios
- Effectively deal with complex ‘real world’ production/consumption issues both systematically and creatively and to make sound judgements in the absence of complete data

- Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems and act as part of a team in planning and implementing
- Identify and define complex issues and apply appropriate knowledge to their solution
- Undertake independent/self-directed study/learning including time management
- Reflect on the process of learning and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses
Module content
As this is an optional field course module a charge additional to tuition fees is incurred by students taking this module. Costs will vary depending on number of students on the module, exchange rates, changes in accomodation charges by providers etc. In 2017-18 the cost of the field course per student, with 15 students attending the module, was £407 per student.

Continuous feedback will be made available to the students during the fieldtrip after their presentations
Feedback on project report will be delivered individually (4 week turnaround).
