Module aims
- to introduce students to a complex and lengthy literary text, and to allow for its in-depth study
- to introduce students to key recent criticism on a Shakespeare play, and to the crucial contexts and history of performance.
- to enable students to study in detail questions of genre and literary tradition
- to enable students to develop skills in group work and presentation in relation to a clearly defined thematic focus
Module learning outcomes
- demonstrate a secure knowledge of a Shakespeare play
- have developed an appropriate critical vocabulary to discuss the text, and be able to locate it within its historical contexts
- demonstrate an ability to engage in close-reading of key elements of a lengthy texts, and relate that reading to larger contexts and arguments.
