This is a 60-credit dissertation module for the MA programmes in the Department of Education. Students can only progress to this module if they have met the requirements of the taught element of the programmes.

This module aims to support students in designing and executing a small-scale research project that is of interest to them, and in writing a report of their study in APA style. In the course of this module, students will have the opportunity to put much of their knowledge and skills in educational research into practice and, potentially, to make an original contribution to knowledge in their chosen topic area.
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students will be able to:
carry out a small-scale research project in the field of Education.
In doing this, students will be able to demonstrate their:
construction of research design for any given research question;
choice and justification for the methods of data collection;
analysis of complex evidence/data using appropriate data analysis methods;
evaluation of their data, synthesising the findings to present their argument persuasively;
the skills involved in writing an MA dissertation.

Additional assessment information
Students will receive formative feedback on drafts of their dissertation as they progress in accordance with the guidance set out for all MA students.
Written feedback will be received on all summative assessments and reassessments. The feedback is returned to students in line with university policy. Please check the Guide to Assessment, Standards, Marking and Feedback for more information.
