Introducing student Check-In

Posted on 18 June 2023

Coming next academic year, we’re introducing a new student digital wellbeing tool called Check-In.

We want the University of York to continue to be an inclusive and welcoming place where students are proactively engaged and supported.

Check-In is a new system for you to ‘check-in’ to your teaching sessions next academic year so you can keep an eye on your engagement with your course. It’s also an extra layer of support as it allows us to identify more quickly if it looks like you might need some extra help, and reach out.

What is Check-In?

From September, you’ll need to input a code to check-in to your teaching sessions. Over time, you’ll be able to see your level of engagement with aspects of your course, spot any patterns or things you might be worried about.

As an additional support, if the University observes you’re not attending teaching sessions, we’ll get in touch with you to check that everything is okay and signpost you to any support you might need.

We know students have different learning styles and requirements and we have worked with students and YUSU to implement the project. This isn’t about penalising you for non-attendance; you won’t be marked down anywhere. It’s just a simple way for you to follow your own progress and for us to identify more quickly where we might be able to help.

We’re working on implementing Check-In over the summer and will have lots more information on how to use the simple system at the start of the academic year. We will welcome your feedback as we start using it in Semester 1.
