Get paid to be a University events steward

The Events Office are recruiting stewards to work across a variety of University events.

Are you confident and approachable? Do you want to fit in paid work around your studies?

University event stewards have excellent customer service skills and can be relied upon to support the success of an event by recognising potential problems before they develop, using their initiative to find solutions and conveying to Event Office staff on duty any feedback (positive or negative) they receive.

Stewards are employed on a flexible shift-by-shift basis and are given the opportunity to develop hands-on experience of a variety of events including Open LecturesYork Researchers' Night (YorNight) and the York Festival of Ideas

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Welcoming audience members and external VIP guests, assisting with questions and responding to feedback (positive or negative) in a calm, considerate manner
  • Supporting set-up of sign-in tables for events, directing colleagues and/or assisting with tidy up at the end
  • Ticket checking on events door, and managing audience flow in and out of events (eg directing seating)
  • Mic running during Q and A sessions
  • Adhering to Health and Safety protocols and guidelines in the case of an emergency
  • Communicating effectively and confidently with a variety of individuals

Stewards are paid £8.37/hour plus holiday pay.

Successful applicants must be available to work on YorNight on Saturday 8 February 2020 and the York Festival of Ideas (2-14 June 2020).
