York announces new Chevening scholarships for future global leaders

Posted on 29 September 2020

The University of York has announced a new agreement with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for up to ten joint-funded Masters scholarships for the next three years. The scholarships will initially open to candidates intending to start a Masters in the 2021/22 academic year.

Professor Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor and President, said: "Opening up opportunities to education, as well as having an international and diverse student community, are key parts of our heritage and our future at York. With our new partnership, we will be able to support more outstanding students to help us deal with the great challenges the world is facing." More can be heard on Professor Jeffery’s full announcement video.

The scholarships are open to nationals of all Chevening-eligible countries, and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. The initiative will prioritise Masters study in York’s Departments of Biology; Environment and Geography; Health Sciences; Sociology; Social Policy and Social Work; and Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media, as well as the Centre for Applied Human Rights, and the Centre for Women’s Studies. Applicants to other subject areas will also be considered.

Each scholarship will cover 100 per cent of University tuition fees, a grant from Chevening for living costs, return flights and UK visa fees. Tuition fees will be covered for the full duration of the Chevening funding period.
