Bumper investment to improve your experience of studying at York

The University's Senior Management Group has approved plans to make additional or increased levels of investment in key areas that will have an impact on your experience at York.

Academic, sporting and welfare all get a boost

The additional spend is aimed at making improvements to your academic and sporting experience, your safety and welfare and your future employment prospects.

The £2 million additional comes on top of the planned millions of pounds already set aside. The measures include:

  • Additional key texts and reading resources to improve our electronic and hard copy collections. More information at your fingertips.
  • 24 hour opening for the newly refurbished library - trials begin Summer 2012. Soon you'll be able to study when you want anytime, day or night, 365 days a year.
  • Digital recordings of lectures - sound and overheads, so you can revisit lectures.
  • Continuation of the Maths Support Centre to help you if you're struggling with the levels of maths you need for your studies.
  • Additional lecturing staff to reduce student : staff ratios to improve your teaching experience.
  • Night time staffing in all colleges during term time including porters and night-time receptionists.
  • Additional resources for the Open Door Team to provide support as and when you need it.
  • Extra funds for refurbishing teaching and learning spaces to refresh and refurbish heavily-used areas to help improve your learning environment.
  • Free participation in club sports.
  • Funding for professional coaching in University sports clubs to help you raise your game.
  • Increased spending on student internships to help improve your employment prospects.

All of these will be in place or in progress for the academic year 2012/13.
