York Futures Scholarship

The York Futures Scholarship (formerly Achieving Excellence Bursary) funds students to access opportunities that give them a head start in the job market. It is funded by York’s alumni and friends community through philanthropic donations.

Applications are open to undergraduate students who successfully complete a York Award application at the start of their second academic year.
  • The York Futures Scholarship is highly competitive. All second year undergraduates who submit a York Award application may apply, however, it is predominantly there to support those from a background less familiar with the graduate labour market, for example those who are the first in their family to go to University.
  • Applications will be considered using a points system, with points allocated across several criteria, including whether a student is first in their family to attend university, household income or eligibility for other bursaries, academic achievement and extra-curricular record.
  • There are currently 106 scholarships available each worth £1,050 per annum for a maximum of two years. They are paid in instalments of £500 in December and £550 in April initially.
  • Successful applicants will also gain exclusive access to a range of careers related support including specialist advice and guidance and meetings with top employers.
  • Students will receive the award in their second year and will be eligible for continued funding for a further year (successful applicants on four year courses can choose to receive the award in their third or fourth year).
