Careers

  • Our Departmental Employability Coordinator runs a specialised programme of events and training sessions to ensure you are well prepared for work and to support you in developing the skills and experience you need to get the job you want after graduation. 
  • We invite external speakers to give you a personal insight into a range of careers, support you to research your career options and provide interactive sessions to help you to prepare high quality CVs, job applications and to perform well in interviews.
  • The University of York has a unique agreement with the University of Hull, which gives York students an additional route into clinical psychology. Every year, a group of our Psychology graduates are admitted to Hull’s clinical doctorate programme straight out of their first degree.

Routes to clinical psychology

Many of our students aspire to careers in clinical psychology because they want to improve the wellbeing of adults and children who have mental, emotional, or behavioural disorders. There are two routes into Clinical Psychology in the UK after graduating from York. One is an exceptional Fast-track Route which we offer in partnership with the University of Hull. The other is a Conventional Route.

Routes to neuroscience

The York Neuroimaging Centre (YNiC) is part of the Department of Psychology. YNiC provides staff and the students they supervise with state-of-the-art facilities for research in cognitive neuroscience. This facility and the wide ranging expertise of our staff makes York one of the best places in the UK to study human neuroscience at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Our department is equipped with superb teaching facilities. Lecture theatres, seminar rooms, laboratories and study spaces are all housed under one roof. One of the key benefits of this design is the strong sense of collaboration it fosters within our academic community.
