Resilience and wellbeing
Meet our Resiliance and Wellbeing Champion, Karisha
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, I am now an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Psychology where I specialise in teaching Forensic Psychology and the Psychology of Wellbeing.
I am passionate about creating safe spaces for students from under-represented groups. I define these as spaces where students are free to be their authentic selves without judgement or discrimination; and feel empowered to achieve the dreams that they have for themselves. My work focuses on ensuring that the wider University eventually becomes such a safe space - a place where safe spaces are no longer needed.
My recommended reading is Resilience: Discovering a New Strength in Times of Stress. This book explores how individuals can cultivate inner strength and adapt effectively to life’s challenges.
A talk by Dr. Karisha Kimone George on resilience.
Diversity is more than bringing in more black and brown faces. We recognise that to fully support students we need to adopt cultural humility and develop support that caters to the nuances in wellbeing needs based on different backgrounds.

Mentors gain valuable professional skills through specialised training in resilience and professional boundaries.
How to get involved: Consider applying to become a peer mentor to support incoming first-year students and develop your leadership skills.
