Fusion CDT students and staff support Fusenet Fusion Teachers Day

Teachers attending our virtual Fusenet Fusion Teachers day.

The Fusion CDT students and staff were pleased to be given the opportunity to support the Fusenet Fusion Teachers Day event, held on Friday 2nd October.

The event was supported by Fusion experts and teachers from all over Europe. Engagement from teachers was great. With many joining the event live and many more engaging with the recordings from the event afterwards, owing to the timings of the school day.

The concept of the event was to provide teachers with the resources and materials to teach fusion to school aged children. The aim is to make fusion knowledge more widely accessible and to create an interest in fusion from an early age, in the hope of inspiring the next generation of fusion researchers.

The Fusion CDT supported the english speaking sessions which welcomed participants from as far as India and China. Prof. Howard Wilson and Dr Aneeqa Khan gave the expert talks on Fusion and Materials, whilst Lucy Holland moderated the session and Nick Osborne gave the educational talk. Our students also collated fusion resources that could be used within the different key stages of the UK science curriculum which will be shared with the participants. This activity was supported by all of the above plus Ella Fox-Widdows, Paul Barron and Steve Thomas.

The response has been so positive that they are commencing the organisation for the 2021 event!
