The University of York and CITY College, Greece, have begun discussions to expand their partnership, creating new sites in Thessaloniki and Athens in the coming years.
The application to the Greek government outlines that CITY College would transition to University of York Europe Campus CITY U.L.E

The plans are dependent on an application to the Greek government, who recently announced they will permit foreign university branch campuses in Greece.

CITY College, based in Thessaloniki, has worked with the University since 2020 and began admitting students in 2021, allowing York to award degrees across a range of subject areas including English Studies, Psychology, Business Administration and Economics, and Computer Science.

The application will see CITY College transition to University of York Europe Campus CITY U.L.E, and includes proposals for its main campuses in Thessaloniki, to operate from two centrally located buildings on Leontos Sofou and Proxenou Koromila in the centre of Thessaloniki, with a third site in Oraikastro Thessaloniki to house lecture halls, laboratories, a conference centre, and both indoor and outdoor sports amenities.

Athens hub

As part of its strategic expansion, the Europe branch campus will establish a hub for Computer Science studies in Athens, incorporating modern facilities specifically designed for technology-driven education.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of York, Professor Charlie Jeffery, said: “CITY College has provided us with a hub for academics to work together, connect with government, build corporate networks across south east Europe, and support students from more than 60 countries achieve their educational ambitions.

“We welcome the Greek government’s decision to support the establishment of foreign university branch campuses in Greece, and we hope, through our application, to continue to contribute to the advancement of higher education in the region.”
