Go on a Virtual Tour of the Library

We’re saying farewell to fines forever!

When the pandemic began, we suspended all fines for returning books late. The last thing our students and staff needed to worry about during lockdown was trying to get items back to the library. It’s now two and a half years since we made this temporary decision, and that period has effectively been a successful trial for a fine-free library - so we are delighted to announce that we’ve decided to make the change permanent.

Library and Archives services over the funeral bank holiday

Monday 19 September has now been designated as a national bank holiday to allow as many people as possible to mark the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

You now need to check in to your Study Room booking within half an hour of its start time, or the room will become available to book for other people to use instead.

The Postgraduate Room is moving this summer

The Study Room for Researchers in the Burton (LBU/003) will be moving on Friday 15 July to room LMO/111 in the Morrell building. This room is currently available for postgraduates and we encourage you to start using the space.

The University exam period is nearly upon us, so here’s everything you need to know about how to make the best use of the Library during your revision and exams. We expect to be busier than normal so you’ll need to plan ahead.

The Library will be open 24hrs between May 2 and June 4

The library will move to 24 hour opening for the exam period, starting at 8am on May 2 and ending at midnight on June 4, after which we'll return to 8am - midnight opening.

The University Library has recently restarted the free, weekly minibus to the Boston Spa Reading Room, and we want to take the opportunity to tell you more about this great service.
