Facilities at Alcuin

Information on useful facilities and services: Laundry, post, communal areas, food, receptions, travel and accommodation.

Where to go for

Laundry
Alcuin launderette is located by S block, under the Junior Common Room. You’ll need your keycard for access.
Maintenance
If you have a problem with your room that requires cleaning or fixing, let us know soon, so that we can get it fixed for you.
Reception
Campus West Reception is located in Market Square. Find opening times and contact details on the reception services page.

Mail

Small post is delivered to the mailbox outside your accommodation. The key is hung in your kitchen and shared by all house members - look after it, a replacement costs £10. 

Large parcels are sent to Campus West Reception (Information Centre). You’ll be emailed when it’s ready for collection. To collect, you’ll need your university ID card.

Communal areas

Alcuin has a Junior and Senior Common Room for members of the college to meet up in, socialise and enjoy. As well as a variety of facilities for you to use, both include a range of comfy seating for Alcuin members to relax in.

Getting around

Buses
The closest bus stop to Alcuin is outside the Library. A free shuttle runs across campus, while a paid service continues into the city centre.
Cycle parking
Cycle parking is available throughout Alcuin, including secure stores that require keycard access and uncovered hoops for communal use.

  • Food and drink: Your nearest place for a bite to eat is The Kitchen Cafe - within a 5 minute walk.
  • The York Sport Sports Centre is just a 10 minute walk away and is home to a gym and courts for racquet sports.
  • Market square is just a six minute walk away and is home to our Market Square grocery store.
  • The Library is a short 4 minutes walk away.
